Structure and Organization
The institutional functioning of MIMAC shall be administered by:
- The Secretariat, led by the Registrar, which is the principal coordinating body responsible for the conduct of arbitrations.
- The MIMAC Council, comprising eminent professionals from maritime law, trade, logistics, judiciary and academia, which shall oversee strategic and policy development.
- The Appointment Committee, empowered to designate arbitrators, rule on challenges, and ensure ethical standards.
- The Advisory Board, which may include international jurists, retired judges, and sectoral experts, functioning as a consultative and non-executive organ.
The Secretariat shall operate independently of the arbitral tribunal and parties and shall ensure administrative neutrality, operational efficiency, and compliance with these Rules.

Unless otherwise agreed by the parties, the seat of arbitration shall be Mumbai, India. Where the seat is in India, the arbitration shall be governed by the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 (as amended). Where the arbitration is seated outside India, these Rules shall continue to apply, save to the extent that any provision contradicts the mandatory laws of the seat, in which case those laws shall prevail.
The Tribunal shall apply the substantive law designated by the parties. In the absence of such agreement, the Tribunal shall determine the applicable law having regard to all relevant circumstances, including the law with the closest connection to the dispute.
